What is an AI Digital Twin?

An AI Digital Twin is a software representation of a person, role, process, or operating system designed to reproduce selected patterns of knowledge, judgment, or behavior. In knowledge work, a twin should be bounded to documented expertise and validated use cases—not presented as a perfect copy of a human being.

Why does AI Digital Twin matter?

Twins can make scarce expertise more accessible and repeatable without requiring the expert to attend every conversation.

How does AI Digital Twin work?

Define the twin’s domain, source materials, decision principles, limitations, evaluation cases, update process, and disclosure requirements.

AI Digital Twin vs. AI agent

  • Digital Twin: represents bounded expertise, judgment patterns, voice, or decision principles.
  • AI agent: performs actions toward a defined operational goal.
  • In practice: a Twin can advise what should be done; an agent can execute the approved workflow.
